One of the most iconic Bears for which many tourists gather in Alaska is the wild bear and it is the only state that has all three varieties- black bear, brown bear, and the polar bear. There are many places from where you can catch a glimpse of these fearsome Bears in their natural habitats.
Top places for bear viewing
Anchorage is the best spot from where you can start your bear-viewing journey- because it has fantastic access to those locations from where you can witness bears fishing for salmons, digging for shellfish, or snacking on sedges. The nearby Chugach, Lake Clark National Park, Chinitna Bay, Cook Inlet coasts, and Katmai National Park are home to many bears. These are located at a short flight distance from Anchorage. If you have scheduled your travel properly there are chances to see many black and brown bears from any of these locations. However, if you are willing to see polar bears too you can visit the Alaska Zoo.
Best time to spot bears
Bear viewing depends on the dates of travel you have selected. Also, there is a high density of bears where there is a large supply of salmon. The animals can be seen mostly from mid-May to mid-September. During this time bears are active and travel towards their food source.
Many bear viewing tours in Alaska start from Anchorage. Do some research and go for the most suitable one.
